July 28 — It's Finished
The book is done. Uploaded to Amazon, all the pending things cleaned up, and I keep sitting here thinking: okay, now what. This project has been hounding me for weeks and I haven't worked like this in a long time — sustained hours, that pressure of a deadline, even if the deadline was one I set myself. But it was nice, actually. Nice to have something with a finish line again.
Now that it's finished it feels like satisfaction. It feels like rest. It feels like something earned, a pat on the back I'm allowed to give myself. I'm proud of what I made. And I think I'm more proud of the choices than the making itself — the deciding, not just the doing.
It cemented something for me about AI as a tool. I always thought — before this — that you push the button and stuff comes out. That's not what this was. I had to press the button a million times. That doesn't diminish the effort, it just makes clear what the effort actually was. AI doesn't make the book. I make the book. I can use the tool badly, or I can use it well, but it's still just a tool, the same way it's always been true that a book doesn't appear without an author sitting down and doing the work.
New appreciation for myself, honestly. This was taxing. It took energy, it took dedication, it took real work. And it's finished.
