Christmas Eve in the Rabbit house. Everyone has made their wish — Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter. All that remains is to fall asleep, and that is proving impossible.
Every sound is louder than it should be. A ball dropping. Mrs. Rabbit walking to bed. A branch against the window. Peter lies very still and very awake, knowing Father Christmas will not come until the house is quiet.
He eventually manages it. Morning arrives. His sisters got exactly what they wished for — and Peter's wish, when it appears, is entirely in character: a large bunch of radishes. Taylor's warm, golden-lit illustrations make this one particularly good for the weeks of December.
